Cheerleading

Q: What is the difference between NOVICE, PREP & PREMIER?

  • A: Novice is intended for students who are brand new to competition cheer (1st year team). Novice teams will practice once a week and compete in 1-2 competitions per year.
  • A: PREP is intended for students who have competed in the past or who have experience cheerleading. Prep teams will practice once a week together and will take an additional tumbling class. They will compete in 1-3 competitions per year.
  • A: PREMIER is intended for students who are more committed to cheer. Premier teams will practice twice a week as a team and are also required to take a tumbling class and conditioning class. Premier teams will compete in 2-5 competitions. Premier teams require an evaluation and students will be placed on a team once evaluated.

Q: What is the difference between Tiny, Mini, Youth, Junior and Senior

  • A: These are divisions based on birth year. Some of our classes list the age range we are requiring for a specific cheer team, even though the division range may be much larger! Our Novice and Prep Divisions are listed below:
    • Tiny – Pre-School – 1st Grade (No “building skills” allowed)
    • Mini – Kindergarten – 4th Grade
    • Youth – 3rd – 8th Grade
    • Junior – Middle/High School
  • Our Premier teams may include a larger age range as they are based on skill level and birthyear.
    • Mini – Oldest Birth Year: 2017
    • Youth – Oldest Birth Year: 2013
    • Junior – Oldest Birth Year: 2010
    • Senior – Birth Year 2007-2016

Q: What is involved in Competition Cheer?

  • A: There are a few areas to consider before joining a competition team:
  1. Full year commitment – Although we operate on semesters, competition cheer is a full year commitment.
  2. Competitions – We will participant in 1-5 local* competitions between Winter -Spring depending on the team. (Competitions may take place in NJ, PA or CT).  We will release the competition schedule as soon as we have it!
  3. Cheer Class – Stunts will enroll in a cheer class that meets 1 or 2 times per week (1 Novice & Prep, 2 for Premier)
  4. Tumbling Class – A separate acrobatics or tumbling class is encouraged for all cheerleaders! An additional tumbling class is required for all premier teams and Prep teams. Tumbling is not required for Novice but is strongly recommended.
  5. Conditioning Class – Premier students will be required to enroll in a conditioning class. Prep and Novice students are welcome to register as well!
  6. Additional Cost/Fees
    • Uniform/Shoes – Yearly uniform costs are estimated to be between $200-$350. This includes a uniform, shoes, bow and socks. (Some teams will use the same uniforms as the 2025-2026 season, so some cheerleaders that have a uniform and/or shoes that fit will not need to purchase that additional item.) Some Premier Teams will be getting new uniforms this season,
    • Registration Fees – Each competition will require a registration fee estimated to be between $75-$95.
    • Practice Attire – Premier Teams will be required to purchased practice attire.
    • Additional Fees may be paid via Cash, Check, Venmo or Zelle to avoid Credit Card processing fees. Any fees not paid by due date will be charged to the card on file, subject to a 3.9% processing fee.

Acrobatics

Q: What is Acro or Acrobatics?

  • A: Acrobatics is intended to blend into choreography seamlessly and will complement dance, cheer and other performance based activities.  In this class we focus on the skills (tumbling), while also working on tricks, combinations and synchronized passes.

Q: Are there any prerequisite skills for Acrobatics?

  • A: Yes! All of our acrobatics classes require at least a forward roll and a cartwheel.  If your student is still working on mastering these skills, then a tumbling class would be best for them!  Our Intermediate Acrobatic classes require a backbend and our Advanced Acrobatics classes require a back walkover.  If you aren’t sure of your students skill level, please reach out for an evaluation.

Q: What is the difference between Acrobatics and Tumbling?

  • A: Both classes focus on skill work.  Tumbling classes work the entire session on skills work. Acrobatics classes work on skill development, while also focusing on tricks, combinations, skill variations and synchronization.

Tumbling and Cheer/Tumble Combo

Q: What is tumbling?

  • A: Tumbling is the floor portion of gymnastics.  It is similar to acrobatics and is commonly referred to as doing “flips,” “inversions” or going “upside down”!  We focus on basic skills such as rolls, cartwheel, handstands, back bends, back handsprings etc!

Q: What is involved in the Cheer/Tumble Combo Class?

  • A: Each class will allow time for instruction in both tumbling and cheerleading.  The Cheer portion of the class will include the components of cheerleading such as stunts, cheers, jumps and dances.  The tumbling portion of the class will include instruction on basic tumbling skills such as rolls, cartwheels, back bends etc.
